And, where should you go for the best waves? What is a skimboard? It is a a piece of thin wood, or any other light and durable material that is used to slide over waves and sand. It should not be confused with surf board, which is much larger and heavier. They tend to be shaped like a flat egg, rounded at both ends, and be as thin and as buoyant as possible. Although it is not as popular a sport as surfing, or wind surfing it uses much more technologically advanced science in the design and manufacturing of boards.Where did they originate? Skimboarding started in Laguna Beach in the 1920s when lifeguards would use pieces of wood to skim along the beach. It did not really become a sport until the 60s when a group of guys started to seriously get into this fun sport.Where should you go for the best waves? This water sport requires some very specific types of waves. They must be larger and powerful enough while they must break close enough to the water to be reached by the skimboarder.Where can I find the best waves for a skimboard? The answer is Laguna Beach, and Cabo San Lucas, in Mexico. These are probably the two best areas for skimboarding. The Mexican beach might actually be the best of the two. You can however go to Santa Cruz California, Delaware and the whole of Florida for waves.
