The salmon fanatic will be found fishing on Langara Island.
May 23, 2010 on 4:13 am | By admin | In Recreation and Sports | Comments OffFor the marlin fisherman, the coast of Australia is an ideal, the flats of Yucatan are heaven for the tarpon addict and the salmon fanatic will be found fishing on Langara Island. Langara is the northernmost island in the Queen Charlottes off the coast of British Columbia and is blessed with breathtaking scenery, a pristine marine environment and the greatest concentrations of salmon in the world. Langara is extremely remote and can only be accessed by floatplanes with flights to the island passing over a fairytale land of scenic islands, dense forest and the sparkling sea. The waters around Langara Island are some of the richest on earth and sportsmen will be overwhelmed by the bounty. Orcas are frequent visitors to the area, dolphins are plentiful and playful and there is an abundance of sea birds. These fishing grounds of Langara Island host all five major species of salmon and are one of the few places where they may all be found together throughout the summer months. It is the first land that the migrating chinook, coho and chum encounter on their way to the streams of their birth. The chinook are plentiful and are represented by fish in the thirty to fifty pound range with the Langara record at nearly eighty. In the late summer there are waves of fat Coho weighing from fifteen to over twenty pounds. The chum arrive by late June and these feisty fish will put up a fight that will rival the chinook and coho combined. As a diversion from salmon fishing, having a go at a two hundred pound halibut makes fishing Langara Island what it is all about.
